New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum | Dec 1, 2020
A popular exhibit at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum that explores the incredible transformation of the Tularosa Basin during World War II is now online.
Visitors to the Museum’s website at www.nmfarmandranchmuseum.org can view the online version of “Home on the Range: From Ranches to Rockets.” This virtual exhibit is more than just photographs and words. It also features videos and oral history audio files. Another new online component to the exhibit will be educational lesson plans for students.

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (MNHS) is proud to announce that one of the museum’s very own geologists was among 13 scientists recently selected by NASA to the science team of the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover mission. The new mission scientists will perform scientific investigations as part of the team operating the Perseverance rover when it lands on February 18, 2021. Dr. Larry Crumpler, a volcanology and space sciences researcher at the Museum was selected after a national and international search for science participants for the upcoming mission to the Red Planet.

SANTA FE – Located on the ancestral lands of Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache peoples, the School for Advanced Research (SAR) and Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC) have joined forces to present “Messages + Monuments: Perspectives on Collective Memories,” a virtual program aimed at addressing the ongoing removal of historical markers and monuments, and what these removals – or attempts to remove – mean within the context of collective memories. This free online event will take place at 10:30 a.m. MST on December 10.

The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is pleased to announce the installation of Bosque Gallery, a new outdoor exhibition space opening on October 23. The open-air gallery will consist of 31 panels measuring 48 inches by 60 inches each, mounted on 730 feet of fencing along the western border of the NHCC campus, facing the Paseo del Bosque Trail.

A virtual first day of issue ceremony for the Our Lady of Guápulo stamp will be held on the Postal Service’s Facebook and Twitter pages at 9:30 a.m. MDT on Tuesday, October 20.

SANTA FE – Native Americans have served in every major U.S. military encounter from the Revolutionary War to today’s conflicts in the Middle East in higher numbers per capita than any other ethnic group. “Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation’s Armed Forces” reveals the remarkable history of Native American veterans through art, photography, and essay. The 16-panel exhibition documents 250 years of Native peoples’ contributions in U.S. military history. The exhibition will be on display at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture from October 16 through November 10, 2020.
New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum | Oct 13, 2020
Today, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) named Heather A. Reed as the new executive director of the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. She replaces Mark Santiago, who retired from the position in July 2020. Reed will assume the directorship on November 2, 2020.

SANTA FE – The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC), in partnership with the U.S. National Archives Office of Innovation, is pleased to announce an online launch event of the Indigenous Digital Archive’s Treaties Explorer, also known as “DigiTreaties.” Thanks to an anonymous donor, the U.S. National Archives has been able to conserve and make the first-ever scans of its holdings of 374 Ratified Indian Treaties.

This exhibition features almost one hundred extraordinary paintings that present not only a visual document of the Academy’s membership but also a unique history of American painting as told by its makers. The exhibition is organized by the American Federation of Arts and the National Academy of Design.
