This summer, hundreds of students in central and northern New Mexico tackled challenges in electrical, biomedical, environmental, and structural engineering through at-home experiments, videos, and live virtual events. As part of the GSK Science in the Summer™ program, these young engineers explored the design process as they solved real-world problems — including managing a playground’s storm water runoff and designing a sturdy lightweight pedestrian bridge.

The Museum embarked on a journey beginning in 2014 to reengage its founding vision and explore future opportunities. The outcome was a transformational idea for an additional space specifically for contemporary art to complement the historic location on the Plaza, creating “One Museum, Two Locations.”

SANTA FE – Beginning in 2003, photographers Siegfried Halus and Greg Mac Gregor set out to document contemporary changes to the lands of the American West that Franciscan friars Atanasio Domínguez and Silvestre Vélez de Escalante traversed in 1776. Halus and Mac Gregor’s images captured during that journey are the basis for the New Mexico History Museum’s (NMHM) new exhibition, “In Search of Domínguez and Escalante,” on view from September 3, 2021, through June 19, 2022.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Museum of Art (NMMOA) is excited to announce that it has been awarded a Museums for America grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in the amount of $250,000. The funds from this grant will go toward the conservation, digitization, and relocation of 6,500 photographs and 300 contemporary paintings and sculptures. These items will be a part of the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary, scheduled to open in the Santa Fe Railyard Arts District in 2022.

MOA and MOIFA, both divisions of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA), are among 79 visual art institutions in the U.S. that were awarded the funding to support the museums in becoming more energy-efficient.

New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum | Jul 12, 2021
The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is paying tribute to women making a difference in New Mexico agriculture. A new, rotating wall display in the Museum’s central corridor is called “Her Land: Women in Agriculture.” The first person featured in the exhibit is Felicia Thal, a longtime rancher in northeastern New Mexico who passed away last year at the age of 92. The exhibit, which is now on display, will be changed every four months to feature a different woman involved in New Mexico agriculture. Moving forward, an emphasis is being placed on contemporary leaders and those who represent the future.

Each historic site offers unique learning experiences, and in order to continue providing these programs and resources the cost of admission will increase at many sites on Thursday, July 1.
