Albuquerque, NM – In order to better facilitate connections across the state, the National Hispanic Cultural Center is launching a Cultural Ambassador partnership program throughout rural New Mexico.

“As someone with deep roots in Southern New Mexico, I know all too well that traveling to Albuquerque for a performance or exhibition isn’t always feasible, which is why we’re working to bring our programming to communities that might not otherwise have access,” said NHCC Interim Executive Director Zack Quintero. “The National Hispanic Cultural Center is a New Mexico treasure, and I’m very excited that this program will allow us to share the Center’s offerings with Hispanic communities throughout the Land of Enchantment while connecting local communities to the center.”

The Cultural Ambassador Program is an effort by the NHCC to identify historic areas in rural New Mexico and establish formal partnerships with those communities. These partnerships will allow the Center to share works of art from national and community artists, build education programming for community members, create youth and school programming, and host renowned artists and national conversations at these historic locations.

The goal of this program is fostering strong connections with artists and community organizations in every corner of New Mexico by identifying, supporting, and empowering rural populations, artists, and youth across the state. To get the program off the ground, Quintero will be traveling to rural communities in order to leverage stage and federal funding for current projects and programs. The first stop on the road trip was the town of Doña Ana, where he met with leaders from the Doña Ana Historic Preservation Committee at the De La O Doña Ana Village Visitors Center during their monthly meeting in April to discuss future partnerships.
