Explore the latest online programming from the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), bringing the state’s unique blend of cultures into your home through its museums, historic sites, and cultural institutions.

This week includes three outstanding programs:

The History and Literary Arts department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center presents the latest online lecture in the series Tertulia Histórica Albuquerque “Roosevelt’s New Deal in New Mexico” via Zoom at 2 p.m. on May 22. Jana Gottshalk, assistant curator at the New Mexico Museum of Art, will discuss the effects of the Work Progress Administration on New Mexico, specifically focusing on the programs and social impact in the Santa Fe area. The Astronomy Club at the New Mexico Museum of Space History has made available multiple videos on the Museum’s Facebook page. Watch short visual lectures on a variety of cosmic subjects, including the history of the universe, exoplanets, the sun, constellations, and meteor showers.

Herd at the Farm & Ranch is a new series on the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum Facebook page. Meet the interesting people connected in some way to the Museum – staff members, farmers, ranchers, and others. Hosted by Farm & Ranch program coordinator Lisa Ann Tyler, the series has produced seven videos. The latest installment is a discussion with Kayla Blundell, whose artwork is featured in the Museum’s new exhibit, “Monumental Territory.”

Here are other interesting programs from across the Department:

The New Mexico Museum of Art has made available for online viewing all of its current exhibitions, including “A Fiery Light: Will Shuster’s New Mexico,” “Alcoves 20/20 #4,” “Breath Taking,” and “Southwest Rising: Contemporary Art and the Legacy of Elaine Horwitch.”

The Museum of International Folk Art will be hosting a talk via Zoom on May 19 on famed designer Alexander Girard titled “Harmony at Hemisfair’68?: Girard’s The Magic of a People.” This discussion will be led by Monica Obniski, curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Register here for this free event.
