Updated Dates for Holiday Events at the New Mexico History Museum

November 18, 2019 (Santa Fe, New Mexico) --- In order to accommodate the interests of sponsoring groups, the New Mexico History Museum has rescheduled two popular holiday events: the annual commemoration of Las Posadas on the Santa Fe Plaza, and the Young Native American Artists Show and Sale.

The new dates for these events are:   * Las Posadas – Sunday, December 8 * Young Native Artists Show and Sale – Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15   For additional details please visit our website at: http://www.nmhistorymuseum.org

Las Posadas: The 43rd annual community celebrated event Sunday, Dec. 8, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Celebrated around the world, Las Posadas recreates Mary and Joseph’s search for a place of shelter in the days leading up to the birth of Jesus. This historic Hispanic version is presented by volunteers from a number of northern New Mexico communities. The candle-lit procession will begin in the Santa Fe Plaza at 5:30 p.m. and conclude in the courtyard of the Palace of the Governors. The public is invited to stay for carols, cookies, and hot cider after the pageant.

The History Museum and Palace will close at 3 p.m. to prepare for this free event.

Dates for Christmas at the Palace remain unchanged. 

Christmas at the Palace: A Santa Fe community favorite since 1982 Friday, Dec. 13, 5:30 – 8 p.m. Now in its 37th year, Santa Fe’s beloved Christmas at the Palace brings communities together for an evening of hot cider, cookies, live local music, a chance to operate an antique printing press, old fashioned activities and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus—all in the legendary magic of the Palace of the Governors museum and Courtyard. Santa Fe community music performers will be include; the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Assoc., the New Mexico School for the Arts, the Santa Fe Talent Education Suzuki Strings, Schola Cantorum, the High Desert Harps, and Coro de Agua Fria.   A free family event (Donations of non-perishable food welcome).

Young Native Artists Winter Show & Sale Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 14–15, 10 a.m.  to 4 p.m. Begin collecting art, jewelry, pottery and more from the next generation of Native American artists and craftspeople. Children and grandchildren of artists associated with the museums Portal Program will demonstrate and sell their own arts and crafts in the NMHM main Lobby. Free public event.
