Inaugural Platinum Music Awards Honoring New Mexico Music Legends Set for July 21 at the Lensic – Nominations Now Open

New Mexico Music Commission Foundation launches award ceremony to honor New Mexico music legends and to benefit Solace Crisis Treatment Center and the New Mexico Music Commission

SANTA FE, NM  -  JANUARY 3, 2017   The New Mexico Music Commission Foundation, and presenting sponsor Allstate Insurance, will hold the Platinum Music Awards ceremony on July 21, 2017, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe. At this gala event, five of New Mexico’s music legends are scheduled to receive the Platinum Music Award for lifetime achievement. The honorees will accept their awards in person and receive tributes by some of the state’s top talent at this inaugural event, which is a benefit for the Solace Crisis Treatment Center and the New Mexico Music Commission.

New Mexico residents are invited to join in the nomination process. Musicians, bands, music teachers, and any person or organization based in the state that has contributed significantly to our musical culture, are eligible. The nomination form and instructions can be downloaded from http://www.platinummusicawards.org. Nominations are accepted through February 15. Once received, nominations will be reviewed by a jury of music industry experts who will make recommendations of worthy recipients to the New Mexico Music Commission, with announcements of the awardees coming later in the year.

“From time to time the New Mexico Music Commission has presented a Platinum Achievement Award to influential New Mexican music icons,” said Dan Stoddard, vice-chairman of the New Mexico Music Commission. “We have decided to now take this to the next level with an annual Platinum Music Awards Show with the New Mexico Music Commission Foundation taking the lead on sponsoring and producing this event.”

The Platinum Music Awards event is soliciting additional sponsors for this inaugural event. Levels from $500 to $10,000 are available, with many benefits including advertising, promotional mention and tickets to the show and exclusive events.

A wide range of sponsors has already signed up for participation with the Platinums. Presenting Sponsor Allstate Insurance has led the way. At the Platinum Level ($2500), Cisneros Design, 4LEET, Hutton Broadcasting and Los Alamos National Bank have come on board. A wide range of sponsors have already joined at the $1000 Gold Circle including Candyman Strings & Things, Cowgirl BBQ, Capital Ford, FNL, Kitchen Sink Recording Studios, Santa Fe Bandstand, Santa Fe Bar and Grill, Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, Santa Fe Spirits, and Tecolote Restaurant. Sustaining Sponsors ($500) are Borrego Music, Luff Financial Services, Sutton Thayer Browne Law and Zlotnick Laws Sandoval CPA. Government sponsors are Department of Cultural Affairs, New Mexico Arts and New Mexico Music Commission.

“Sponsorship is a great opportunity for businesses, organizations and individuals to show support for New Mexico’s active and diverse music community,” said David Schwartz, president of the New Mexico Music Commission Foundation. “Our first show, next July, will honor five New Mexican legends with special tribute performances and a unique evening of entertainment.

“This important event recognizes some of the people who have built New Mexico’s musical culture for decades,” Schwartz added. “And the proceeds are benefitting great causes.”

“We applaud and are excited for the partnership between the Music Commission Foundation and Solace,” said Michael Delello, Deputy Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. “This is a fitting way for the Foundation to galvanize the music community to benefit an organization that offers vital services to many New Mexicans, as well as provide support for Music Commission projects. During these lean times in our state, these are the kinds of partnerships we need.”

Solace Crisis Treatment Center is the sexual assault service provider for a portion of Northern New Mexico, including Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos Counties. Solace provides people who have experienced trauma with evidence-based treatment, advocacy services for navigating community resources and education in order to restore strength and find inner resiliency.
