Santa Fe, NM – Visit the 19th annual Native Treasures Art Market at the Santa Fe Convention Center this Memorial Day weekend, May 26 – 28, 2023.
Each year, the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC) brings together hundreds of Native artists for the annual art market. For its 2023 edition Native Treasures Art Market will present the highest quality artworks from a range of media—from painting and sculpture to jewelry and fashion, including Southwest favorites like pottery and textiles. All artists are available to meet and learn more about their work.
The Native Treasures Night Market on Friday, May 26 is a unique opportunity to shop the market early while enjoying delicious refreshments and live music by the Jacob Shije Trio. The MIAC Living Treasure Ceremony will take place during this event, honoring the 2022 MIAC Living Treasure, Virgil Ortiz (Cochiti Pueblo), the 2023 MIAC Living Treasure, Anthony Lovato (Santo Domingo Pueblo), and the 2023 Legacy Award recipients Lynda Teller Pete (Diné) and Barbara Teller Ornelas (Diné).
MIAC’s annual Living Treasure award honors Native artists who have made outstanding artistic contributions to the field of Indigenous arts and culture. Afterwards, more than 180 artists will be selling their works from 6-8 p.m. MIAC partners with the Museum of New Mexico Foundation--proceeds support the museum’s programs and participating artists keep 100% of their sales from the market.
The market will continue from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28. General admission is $5/adult. The event will include MIAC educational programs for all ages and performances by the Black Eagle Singers (Jemez Pueblo), Zuni Olla Maidens, Tesuque Dance Group, and more.
Native Treasures began in 2005 out of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation as a means of concurrently supporting both MIAC and Native artists in the Southwest.
