National Hispanic Cultural Center 2nd Annual Film Symposium: Power Of Our Stories
National Hispanic Cultural Center

This four-day symposium brings together Hispanic, Latinx, Chicano/a, and Indigenous filmmakers, directors, academics, screenwriters, and students for a mix of film screenings and discussions. Films included in the symposium range from full-length, award-winning documentaries to short vignettes, touching on topics like environmental justice, Indigenous food sovereignty, and the power of organized labor.

Wednesday, April 10: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.: Food trucks and cash bar  6:00 p.m.: Chuy Martinez- Songs of the Chicano Movement  7:00 p.m.: Screening- In the Pit (2006) 

Thursday, April 11  2:00 p.m.: Screening- Building the American Dream (2019)  3:30 p.m.: Screening- Campesinos (2022)  4:00 to 5:00 p.m.: Panel Discussion- Chealse Hernandez and Alexi Ontiveros  6:30 p.m.: Screening- Crow Country: Our Right To Food Sovereignty (2020)  7:00 p.m.: Screening- Adios Amor (2018)  8:00 p.m.: Mayors of Shiprock (2017)  9:00 to 10:00 p.m.: Panel Discussion and Q&A: Ramona Emerson, Tsanavi Spoonhunter, and Laurie Coyle 

Friday, April 12  1:00 p.m.: Screening- Lupe Under the Sun (2016)  2:30 p.m.: Screening- Team Meryland (2021)  3:15 to 4:15 p.m.: Panel Discussion and Q&A: Gabriel Gaurano and Rodrigo Reyes.  4:30 p.m.: Screening- Unseen (2023)  7:00 p.m.: Screening- Singing our Way to Freedom (2018)  8:15-9:15pm: Panel Discussion and Q&A with Pedro & Paul Espinosa moderated by Deborah Blanche 

Saturday, April 13:  2:30 p.m.: Screening- Salt of the Earth (1954) 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.: Panel Discussion: Chuy Martinez and special guests.
