Celebrate the arrival of a new exhibit at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) on Nov. 19-20 with a weekend of fun, learning, and plenty of chocolate!
What: The Roving With Perseverance exhibit, which brings full-sized replicas of NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover and Ingenuity Helicopter, will open at NMMNHS on Saturday, Nov. 19. As one of the few museums across the nation to host these replicas, the Museum is celebrating with a pair of Family Days on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20.
During this opening weekend, New Mexico scientists working with the mission, including Museum research curator Dr. Larry Crumpler, and other Perseverance team members from institutions like Los Alamos National Laboratory and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day to talk to visitors about the technology used by the rover. The Museum will host Mars activities and will be giving away Perseverance-related goodies as long as supplies last. At 1:00 p.m. both days, mission personnel will give special short talks in the Planetarium.
Additionally, the Museum will also be hosting its second Sweet Saturday event on Nov. 19. Sweet Saturdays are family-friendly days at the Museum where visitors can explore the wonderful world of chocolate, as a complement to Chocolate: The Exhibition.
On these select Saturdays, the Museum will host specialized chocolatiers and other experts who can answer questions and provide insight into the history, creation, and variety of chocolate.

Why: NMMNHS is proud to be the only museum in the region to host the Roving With Perseverance Roadshow, and one of the only institutions on the tour to display two full-sized Mars rovers next to one another. Between Roving With Perseverance and Chocolate: The Exhibition, there’s no shortage of things to be excited about at NMMNHS!
