Join Historic Site Manager Aaron Roth for an online evening lecture, where he will share the history of Fort Sumner and the establishment of the Bosque Redondo Reservation for Diné and Ndé people. As well, he will discuss the history of how the State of New Mexico did not always tell the true history of the site but later came to embrace a truer representation of the history through partnership with Navajo Nation and the Mescalero Apache Tribe.
Aaron Roth is from a Jewish American family from the rural town of Republic, Ohio. He graduated from Heidelberg University in May of 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in Anthropology, with an emphasis in historic archaeology. Later, in May 2013 Aaron obtained a Master of Arts in Southwest Studies Anthropology from New Mexico Highlands University.
He has worked for the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, Historic Sites Division, for 9 years. While working at Bosque Redondo Memorial/Fort Sumner Historic Site as a historic site manager/ranger, Aaron has gathered first hand knowledge of the history of the Diné (Navajo) and Ndé (Mescalero Apache) people through academic/archival research and oral histories passed down from ancestors afflicted by this history. This knowledge and understanding has shaped the way site history is interpreted and the way in which people are received.
