First Friday Fractals return to NM Museum of Natural History & Science on Nov. 4 Nov 4, 2022
First Friday Fractals return to NM Museum of Natural History & Science on Nov. 4
New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) is thrilled to announce that live fractal shows on the first Friday of the month will be returning to the Museum after an absence of nearly three years, beginning on Friday, Nov. 4.

What: Fractals are never-ending, infinitely complex patterns that are self-similar across different scales. They are created by repeating a simple process over and over in an ongoing feedback loop.

NMMNHS, in partnership with The Fractal Foundation, presents a pair of fractal shows for Museum visitors. First Friday Fractals is an award-winning, full-dome planetarium show that takes viewers on a tour of the fractals in nature and zooms through infinitely complex mathematical fractals. Featuring original music, the show is both educational and highly entertaining, and suitable for ages 3 and up. The Museum will host First Friday Fractals screenings at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Fractals Rock! shows are more entertainment-oriented, featuring more 3D fractal zooms with less explanation about what fractals are or the Fractal Foundation’s education and outreach. Catch Fractals Rock! at 8:00 and 9:00 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60+), and $5 for kids 3 - 12 yrs. Tickets are available at www.nmnaturalhistory.org/events/first-friday-fractals. The Museum encourages visitors to purchase tickets in advance of the event, as tickets will likely sell out.

Where: The NMMNHS Planetarium, at 1801 Mountain Rd NW.

When: Friday, Nov. 4 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Each show begins on the hour. Check www.nmnaturalhistory.org for details on upcoming First Friday Fractal events. Please note that the rest of the Museum will be closed to visitors during these events.

Why: Fractals span the fields of biology, geometry, architecture, and many others, while still managing to entertain us with their hypnotic beauty. Head to NMMNHS on Nov. 4 and see for yourself!
