The 35th Annual Festival Flamenco Alburquerque is returning to the Duke City from June 11-18, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is the place to be for several unique shows and incredible performances.

Who: Festival Flamenco Alburquerque is produced by the National Institute of Flamenco in partnership with the NHCC, the University of New Mexico, and Bernalillo County.

What: Festival Flamenco Alburquerque is the largest flamenco event outside of Spain and touches the lives of thousands of participants through workshops, theatre shows, tablao performances, lecture series, and free public programming.

This year’s Festival Flamenco boasts seven U.S. premieres, showcasing the dynamic range and expressive power of flamenco from its most traditional to its most avant-garde interpretations.

When: The NHCC will host three performances during the week-long festival. On June 11, catch La Confluencia, a production from Estévez / Paños y Compañía, winners of the Spanish National Dance Prize for Choreography in 2019, at 8 p.m. .

Then, head back on Thursday, June 16 at 8 p.m. for Eva Yerbabuena y Compañía in D’Madrugá. Flamenco’s grande dame returns to the Festival with a work of pure inspiration transmitted with unmatched beauty, depth, and energy.

Finally, on June 17 and June 18 at 8 p.m., NHCC will host Fiesta Flamenca, featuring two distinct line-ups of the Festival’s powerhouse headlining artists and New Mexico’s own Yjastros.

Where: All performances can be seen at NHCC’s Albuquerque Journal Theatre (1701 4th St SW). Visit the National Institute of Flamenco’s website for a full list of venues.

Why: To celebrate and learn more about the unique art of Flamenco!
