Focus on Photography

New Mexico Museum of Art

Focus on Photography is a year-long cycle of photography exhibitions, celebrating the museum’s rich collection of photographs and the key role the medium has played in shaping New Mexico culture.  The project continues through March, 2015. We open with three concurrent shows -

Beneath our Feet: Photographs by Joan Myers

New Mexico photographer Joan Myers has been making pictures for nearly forty years, using her camera to explore relationships between people and the land. The exhibition of more than 35 photographs cuts across several bodies of her work and offers a sampling of the artist’s images from Antarctica to volcanos.

Grounded

Complementing the exhibition of photographs by Joan Myers, this selection of landscape photographs is drawn primarily from the museum’s collection and examines, literally, the ground beneath our feet.

Photo Lab

Welcome to the lab, where ideas develop! This lab explores the processes of color and platinum-palladium prints using the museum’s collection. Reading materials include books by Joan Myers, how-to handbooks, and other material to pique your interest.  Also check out the news board for an ever-changing selection of questions about photography that we invite YOU to answer!
