Held annually on the second Saturday in July in partnership with Fort Stanton Inc., Fort Stanton Live brings costumed interpreters from the Civil War and Indian Wars era to the Fort for a variety of activities. Visitors can expect cavalry, infantry, and artillery demonstrations (no cannons or cap guns will be fired), presentations from writers and historians, tours, old-time games for kids, food vendors, and live performances from period-appropriate bands.

The monthly Fort Stanton Living History programming will be held in conjunction with this event, including site tours, children’s craft projects, and more.

In addition, celebrate the reopening of the newly rehabilitated Nurses Quarters, with a medical tape, a.k.a. ribbon, cutting at 10:30 a.m. See new exhibits inside the Nurses Quarters and watch a slideshow of historic images. In honor of the nurses who once worked at the Fort, a blood drive will be hosted from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. with the Vitalant bloodmobile, and cookies and juice will be provided by the friends group. Kids can participate in nurse and medical-themed children’s activities throughout the day.

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs Wonders on Wheels mobile museum will be onsite with an exciting new exhibit called "Growing New Mexico" traveling from the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.
